Abstract

Acid circulation pumps are the main equipment of the absorption process of SO3 gas into sulfuric acid solution. The acid pump at the Sulfuric Acid Plant is prone to deterioration in performance due to interrelated causative factors. Meanwhile, the replacement of the acid circulation pump can only be done in major maintenance situations (large-scale maintenance, care, and repair actions) so it is important to maintain the condition of the acid circulation pump to operate properly without any problems. This paper discusses important aspects that are factors that cause problems in the operation of the acid circulation pump related to black out and forced shut down, along with suggestions for improvement to prevent the same problems from occurring in the future.
