Abstract

 The reliability of electrical systems and mechanical equipment, such as
Pressurized Fans is critical for ensuring safety and operational
continuity in high-rise buildings, particularly in emergency stairwells.
This study focuses on Polarization Index (PI) testing to evaluate cable
insulation conditions in Pressurized Fan at PT XYZ. The methodology
includes initial functional testing, literature review, automated control
panel design, and system performance evaluation. Test results revealed
that while insulation resistance (IR) values met standards (>25 MΩ), low
PI values (<1.0) indicated insulation degradation, causing frequent
tripping of the Pressurized Fan. The implemented solutions involved
replacing the cable installation and designing a more reliable control
panel. Post-improvement, the system operated optimally and complied
with safety standards such as SNI 03-1746-2000 and NFPA 92A. This
study highlights the importance of preventive maintenance through
regular PI testing to prevent system failures and ensure building
occupant safety.
