Abstract

Indonesia has a rich store of natural resources, mostly oil and gas reserves. To exploit these resources requires offshore drilling activities. The transport of gas and oil between offshore facilities is done through subsea pipelines, which possess different sets of hazards compared to onshore pipelines. This study focuses on sinking ships and dropped anchors impacting the pipe as the main hazards against subsea pipelines. Maritime traffic data was obtained from Global Maritime Traffic Data Service. The risk calculated is sinking ship and dropped anchor that strike the pipeline and cause damage. Event Tree Analysis is done to determine the frequency of scenario happening. Impact energy is calculated for both scenarios and then compared to the impact energy capacity of the pipe. Using Conditional Probability table, a range of possible pipe damage levels is found. This probability range is then summed up to obtain the final risk frequency for the pipeline in both scenarios, summing up to 4,59E-08 for dropped anchor and 7,18E-11 for sinking ship. From these values, it can be determined that the risk posed by the sinking ship and dropped anchor scenarios to be within negligible category, and thus no further risk mitigation is required.
