Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the structural integrity of the piping system and optimize its design. The method began with the collection of actual data from piping system which was then input for modeling and simulation using AutoPIPE software. Analysis which was done: calculating stress due to sustained loads (internal pressure, pipe/fluid weight) and occasional loads (earthquakes), as well as examining the forces on the pipe and supports, displacement, and rotation of the pipe. Initial results indicated high stress (ratio above 1.0) under the combined sustained and earthquake loads, indicating that the initial design does not meet safety standards. As a solution, additional pipe supports at critical points were recommended. By adding appropriate supports, the stress on the pipe due to the combined sustained and earthquake loads was successfully reduced to the design code's allowable limits. This was very effective in improving the safety and compliance of piping systems with standards, reducing the risk of failure, and ensuring stable operation.
