Abstract

The demand for LPG gas at the Sei Silau Palm Oil Mill (PKS Sei Silau) for plate and metal cutting activities in the technical workshop is relatively high, while the cost of LPG refills is comparatively expensive, thus encouraging the need for innovation in alternative fuels. This research and innovation aim to identify a more efficient and economical alternative fuel gas to replace LPG, offering comparable or better performance while remaining safe for use in an industrial environment. The research method employed an experimental approach involving the design of a modified gas cylinder and testing the use of Pertalite as an alternative fuel. Through stages of brainstorming, design, experimentation, and evaluation, the results showed that Pertalite can be effectively used as an alternative fuel substitute for LPG. In addition to being more cost-effective, the non-LPG alternative gas proved to be more fuel-efficient, with a consumption ratio of 1:2 compared to LPG. This finding was validated through experiments conducted in the workshop, where one 3-kg cylinder of non-LPG alternative gas achieved the same cutting performance as two 3-kg LPG cylinders when used for cutting metal and steel plates.
