ABSTRAK: Pemikiran Richard Rorty mengenai solidaritas tanpa dasar universal
memiliki relevansi yang luas bagi masyarakat plural, di antaranya, terbentuknya
kekitaan baru. Pemikiran ini dikritik sebagai usaha untuk mempromosikan
etnosentrisme. Tulisan ini menegaskan bahwa solidaritas tidak dapat dibangun
di atas fondasi kategoris tentang kemanusiaan universal. Sebaliknya, solidaritas
harus mulai dari mana kita berasal, yaitu realitas konkret dan kenyataan hidup
yang jadi bagian dari pergulatan kita sehari-hari.

Abstract: Richard Rorty’s ethical thinking solidarity without universal basis has
its large relevance in building pluralistic society, especially in forming the new
togetherness. Th is thought has been criticized as an eff ort to promote ethnocentrism.
Th is article is intending to defend that the solidarity cannot be developed under the
categorical foundation concerning the universal humanity. In contrary, it should start
from which are coming, that is, from our concrete and real life.
