Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The manuscript should consist of Introduction, literature review, methodology and conclusions. The manuscript should not go more than 25 page including references.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.

Instructions for Authors of Veritate UCT Journal For Research

ARTICLE WITHDRAWAL

Authors are not allowed to withdraw submitted articles as withdrawal is a waste of valuable resources that editors have spent on processing the article. If an author still requests to withdraw an article while the article is still in the peer-review process, the author must pay USD 200,00 per article, as a withdrawal penalty to the publisher. If the article is requested to be withdrawn after the article has been accepted for publication and is still in the process of copying or production, the author is required to pay USD 300,00 per article. Withdrawal of the article is only allowed after the author has paid the fine to the publisher.

Article Type

  1. Research Articles: Primary articles resulting from social and humanity science research.
  2. Case Reports: Articles that discuss an interesting or rare case. The article also reviews the reasons for the uniqueness of the case and the follow-up results of the case.
  3. Literature Review: Articles based on theoretical review, model development, description of facts and assessment of the latest social  science and humanities.

General Instructions

Articles submitted do not contain elements of plagiarism, must be original, have not been published in other journals and are not in the process of being published in other journals. Articles accepted for publication will become the property of the publisher and will not be returned to the author. The publisher owns the copyright to the entire contents of the published article. Articles deemed unfit for publication will be returned to the author. The content of the article is the sole responsibility of the author. The editorial board reserves the right to make edits in accordance with the style. Each submitted article will be assessed by a reviewer selected by the editorial board. Research articles must be accompanied by ethical approval and informed consent if required. Acceptance and submission of articles are uploaded on the Veritate UCT Journal For Research website and sent via email: ejournalveritateuct@gmail.com.

Types and Display of Articles

The types of articles that can be published are research articles, case reports and literature reviews. The maximum number of pages is 16 pages (including bibliography pages and table and figure pages). Articles are typed on A4-sized paper (210 mm x 297 mm) with a top border of 2.5 cm, and bottom, right, and left borders of 2 cm from the edge of the paper.  Articles must contain (1) title and author pages, (2) abstract and keywords, (3) article content and acknowledgments, (4) bibliography, (5) tables and figures sequentially in the article section, and saved in .doc or .docx document format. Articles can be written in English or Portuguese.

Title Page

The title page is typed using Arial font size 14, alignment center, space 1 with the title of the article using capital letters, bolded and no more than 16 words. The title page should contain the title of the article, the full names of all authors without titles with the first name as the main author, the name of the relevant department or institution and the address of the institution. Mark the author who plays a role in the correspondence of the article with *.

Abstract Page

The abstract page is typed using Arial font size 10, alignment justified, space 1. The abstract page should only contain 150 to 250 words with keywords containing three to seven words sorted alphabetically. The abstract page should also be typed bilingually ( Portuguese and English). Abstracts are written in a structured form, The structure for research articles is to contain introduction, methods, results, and conclusions. The abstract structure for case study report articles must contain an introduction, case, and conclusion. The abstract structure for literature review articles contains an introduction, objectives, methods, and discussion.

Article Content

The content of the article is typed using Arial font size 11, justified alignment, 1.5 spaces. Tables and figures (if any) must be stated in the body of the article but may not contain the tables and figures. Acknowledgments must be included. If there are no acknowledgments, it must be emphasized that the article is not related to other institutions and there is no funding outside the relevant institutions. All wordings must follow correct language rules, including punctuation. The content of the article must follow the template as provided.

Bibliography

The bibliography is made using the help of applications such as mendeley, endnote and others not typed manually and follows the APA writing style. The bibliography uses Arial font size 10 and 1.5 spaces. The order of the bibliography is arranged in the order in which it appears in the article with the first letter in the title or name capitalized. All authors' names must be included if the article has six or fewer authors. If the article has more than six authors, the first six authors must be listed followed by “et al.”. Journal names must not be abbreviated. The bibliography should contain at least 75% recent articles (ten years or less). The bibliography should be the full article and not an abstract.

Tables and Figures

Tables or figures are placed in the article in the section that describes the table or figure. The maximum number of tables or figures allowed is 6. The title and text of the table and the title of the figure are typed in Arial font size 10 with 1 space. Tables or figures (if any) must be stated in the content of the article. Writing table or figure numbers using Arabic numerals followed by the title of the table or figure. Any tables or figures taken from other sources must be listed in the bibliography.

Tables consist only of horizontal lines without vertical lines. The table number and title are placed above the table. Tables in the results section should state the p value, Odds Ratio (OR) or Relative Risk (RR), and Confidence Interval (CI). Sources are listed at the bottom of the table following the APA style of writing. If the table is your own work, the source does not need to be included.

The figure number and title should be placed below the figure. Images submitted in separate files are saved in .jpeg, .png, .bmp, or .tiff format with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. Sources are listed using at the bottom of the image number and title following the APA writing style. If the image is your own work, the source does not need to be included.
