Submitting an Article

To submit your article, please click the New Submission button on the OJS Manasa website. There are 6 steps of the submission process that need to be completed for your submission. Please read and follow the instructions thoroughly.

Types of Manuscripts

Manasa publishes manuscript material in three categories: (1) original/regular manuscripts, (2) brief reports, and (3) empirical review. Summary details of each category are as follows:

  1. Original/Regular Manuscripts
Original/regular manuscript includes innovative quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods empirical research or theory. Mixed methods articles report original empirical research that summarizes and integrates quantitative and qualitative findings in the same manuscript and may include a single methods section or separate sections depending on the author’s assessment of the best way to present the research. As required, the manuscript should be 15-35 pages (minimum of 3000 words), Times New Roman 12pt with double-spaced, INCLUSIVE title page, references, tables, and figures.
  1. Brief Reports
Accepted Brief Reports should be no more than 10 double-spaced pages, INCLUSIVE of title page, references, tables, and figures.
  1. Empirical Review
The journal welcomes reviews of empirical research and meta-analyses on topics relevant to community research and action. A wide range of empirical reviews may be appropriate, including quantitative or qualitative research reviews, policy research, and community-based participatory research. Manuscripts should be 20-40 double−spaced pages, INCLUSIVE of references, tables and figures.

Manuscript Style

The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (7th Edition) should be used as the style guide for preparing manuscripts, particularly regarding reporting research results, citing references, and reducing language bias.

The text should describe the participants' background characteristics, which may include information concerning their gender, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability status, and socioeconomic status.

Academic or professional affiliations of all authors and the full mailing address, telephone number, and e-mail address of the author who will correspond with the Editorial Office and review proofs are required by the Editorial Manager. In order to allow for blind review, authors should avoid including information that may identify the authors in the body of their manuscript.

The author(s) should adhere to these requirements:

  • All manuscripts should be typewritten and double-spaced using 12-point “Times New Roman” font.
  • The length for each type of submitted manuscript is noted above under “Types of Manuscripts”.
  • Authors should identify how informed consent was obtained.
  • An abstract of up to 200 words should be included along with up to 5 keywords listed directly below the abstract.
  • Tables should be numbered consecutively and referred to by number in the text. Each table should be provided in the same manuscript file and placed in the text at the desired position with a number and descriptive title at the top.
  • Figures or illustrations (photographs, drawings, diagrams, and charts) should be numbered consecutively and referred to by number in the text. Photographs should be high-contrast, and drawings should be sharp and clear. Each figure should be provided in the same manuscript file and placed in the text at the desired position with a number and descriptive title at the top.

Responding to a Review

Once the review process has been completed, the editor will email you their decision.

After receiving the email, log in to your dashboard.

 Resubmitting for Review

If the editor decides to resubmit for review, you must log in and select the article in your submissions page. The author(s) should not start a new submission for this purpose, as the resubmission should be done on this particular menu.

At the review stage, you will need to do two things to resubmit once you have revised your document:

  1. Upload the new file in the revisions section. To upload a new file, click on ‘Upload file.’ A new window will open, allowing you to upload your file(s).
  2. Select the appropriate option from the dropdown menu to indicate you not submitting a revision of an existing file.

Add a discussion in the cover letter to notify the editor that you have re-submitted.

The peer review process will be repeated. You may receive additional feedback on revisions to make. Once these are completed and accepted, you will move to the next stage.

Responding to a Copyediting Request

The next step in the workflow is to inspect your submission files that have been copyedited.

You will receive an email indicating that files are available. Log in to the journal and go to your dashboard to see them.

Responding to a Proofreading Request

The next step in the workflow is to inspect your submission files that have been converted into PDF format.

You will receive an email indicating that files are available. To see them, log in to OJS Manasa and go to your dashboard.
