Abstract

Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy (CDMSE) refers to an individual's belief in their own capacity to make career-related decisions, encompassing aspects such as self-appraisal, gathering occupational information, goal selection, planning, and problem-solving. One factor that influences CDMSE is peer social support—assistance provided by individuals of similar age and experience—which includes emotional, appraisal, informational, and instrumental support, as well as social networking. This study aimed to examine the influence of peer social support on CDMSE among high school students. A non-experimental quantitative method was employed, utilizing instruments for peer social support (62 items; reliability 0.980) and CDMSE (30 items; reliability 0.964). Among the components of peer social support, informational support was the most prominent, while instrumental support was the least. Regarding CDMSE, goal selection was the highest-rated component, whereas gathering occupational information was the lowest. A Pearson correlation analysis yielded a coefficient of 0.678, indicating a strong positive relationship. The coefficient of determination (R²) revealed a 46% contribution, confirming the role of peer social support in predicting students' career decision-making self-efficacy. The resulting regression equation, Y = 40.751 + 0.333X, suggests that for every 3-point increase in peer social support, CDMSE increases by 1 point. A significance value of 0.001 (p < 0.05) indicates that peer social support has a significant influence on CDMSE. Based on these findings, school counselors are encouraged to organize peer-led, discussion-based career guidance sessions. These sessions should focus on enhancing students' skills in goal selection and gathering occupational information through activities such as sharing experiences regarding study choices, simulating career decision-making processes, and collaboratively exploring information on further education.
