PROFIL OF PEER PRESSURE REGARDING PREMARITAL SEXUAL BEHAVIOR AMONG UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

Peer pressure is the influence exerted by a peer group on an individual to adjust attitudes, values, and behaviors to be in line with their group. Peer pressure in college students’ lives can influence various aspects of behavior, including premarital sexual behavior. In this study, peer pressure is reviewed from Peer Involvement (Involvement with Peers), Conformity to Peer Norms (Conformity to Peer Group Norms), and Misconduct (Deviant Behavior). This study aims to determine the description of peer pressure on premarital sexual behavior in students of the Guidance and Counseling Study Program at University X. The study used a quantitative method with a descriptive approach. The subjects in thi sstudy were 84 students of the Guidance and Counseling Study Program at University X. The data collection technique used a questionnaire containing 40 statements with a measuring instrument reliability of 0.979. The results showed that most students were in the low peer pressure category of 54.77%, which means students tend not to be asily influenced by peers. Meanwhile, 21.42% of students were in the high category indicating strong peer influence, and 23.81% were in the medium category indicating moderate peer influence. The results of the component analysis showed that the misconduct component was the component with the highest score, while the conformity to peer norms component was the component with the lowest score. Therefore, it can be concluded that peer pressure on premarital sexual behavior among students of the Guidance and Counseling Study Program at University X is generally in the low category. Therefore, high self-control is needed so that students are able to manage themselves in their social environment.
