Abstract

Learning mathematics, especially arithmetic and number patterns, is often a challenge for students due to the lack of creative approaches and the use of technology in the learning process. This community service program aims to improve the competence of teachers and lecturers in teaching innovative arithmetic concepts through the Educational Technology Online Workshop: Creative Arithmetic in the Era of Artificial Intelligence. This activity is conducted online and attended by participants from various backgrounds, including teachers, students, and the general public. The implementation method includes introducing the concept of regularity of number patterns, demonstrating the Vertical Metric method, and training in using web-based digital applications for creative calculations from licensed association partners. The activity results showed an increase in participants' understanding of developing creative learning strategies and high enthusiasm from participants in implementing technology-based arithmetic methods in their respective educational environments. This training positively impacts educators' pedagogical skills and encourages students' interest in learning mathematics through a more interesting and applicable approach.

Christiand, Djoko Setyanto, Anthon De Fretes, Joseph Prabaswara Astadiningrat, Feryandinata Indrajaya, Rangga Dewata Putra

Abstract

Photography studios often require various lighting arrangements for different photo and video shooting themes. Lighting in a studio environment is critical to producing high-quality images and videos. However, conventional lighting sources, such as lamps or other lighting equipment, are often inflexible to reposition according to the photographer’s desired thematic setup. Manual lighting adjustments can be time-consuming, mainly when automated positioning features are unavailable. This inefficiency hampers the photo and video shooting process. In the community service program discussed in this article, the team from the Mechanical Engineering Department at Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia developed a motorized stepper-based lighting system with railing to address the inefficiencies in studio lighting adjustments. The team partnered with Kolaborasi Berkat Kreasindo (KBK) studio. The developed lighting system can be controlled remotely, eliminating the need for direct manual adjustments. This solution has assisted the partner studio in enhancing the lighting setups for photography sessions.

Abstract

"Kemah Peduli Sahabat Kasih" is a care facility for individuals with mental disorders, managed by a single family. One of the primary challenges faced by the facility is the inadequate lighting for nighttime activities. In 2024, the team from the Faculty of Biosciences, Technology, and Innovation (FBTI) at Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia contributed by installing two solar-powered lighting units: one along the access road to the facility and another for the front and back yard areas. However, these two lighting points were insufficient to fully support nighttime activities. Therefore, the 2025 community service program aimed to install additional lighting points at the Kemah Peduli Sahabat Kasih facility. The activity began with observations and interviews with the head and staff of the facility to assess conditions following the installation of the initial lighting units and to determine the additional lighting needs. It was found that three more lighting points were required, exceeding the initially allocated budget. As a result, a joint discussion was conducted between the Atma Jaya team, the facility head, and staff to decide that this year’s budget would be allocated to the purchase of solar-powered lamps. The community service program successfully procured three solar-powered lamps, which were tested and demonstrated satisfactory performance and illumination levels. The operational procedures and maintenance guidelines were also effectively communicated and understood by the facility’s head and staff.
