PROFILE OF THE ROLE OF FATHERS IN STUDENTS OF THE GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING STUDY PROGRAM AT ATMA JAYA UNIVERSITY, JAKARTA

Fathers play a crucial role in a child's growth and development. Besides being the head of the family and breadwinner, fathers also serve as partners with mothers in educating and raising children. Fathers act as caregivers, playmates, mentors, and supervisors, as well as primary supporters, providing emotional support to all family members, especially children. A father's role in childcare encompasses physical, emotional, social, and educational dimensions. The purpose of this study was to determine children's perspectives on the role of fathers, particularly in parenting. The research method used was descriptive quantitative research. The subjects were 41 students of the Guidance and Counseling Study Program, Class of 2021-2022, Faculty of Education and Languages, Atma Jaya Catholic University, Jakarta. The researcher adopted the Father Presence Questionnaire (FPQ) instrument adapted by Khoiriyah (2023), which consists of 42 valid statements with a reliability coefficient of 0.968. The results of the study showed that as many as 6 respondents (15%) of students had a low perspective related to the low role of fathers, 29 respondents (70%) had a medium perspective related to the role of fathers, and 6 respondents (15%) had a high perspective related to the role of fathers. These results indicate that the majority of respondents had a medium perspective related to the role of fathers in parenting. Based on the results of the analysis, it was found that the Beliefs About the Father dimension obtained an average score of 178. This indicates a strong positive view of the role of fathers in supporting individual lives. Six subjects in the study had a low level of father involvement in the emotional aspect. Students are expected to understand the father's role not only in material aspects but also in emotional and social aspects. The researcher suggests that academic advisors provide more intensive support, either through counseling approaches or discussions, to help students understand the importance of father involvement in their development
