ATTACHMENT PATTERNS IN EARLY ADULT WOMEN WITH A HISTORY OF FATHER ABSENCE

Fatherlessness refers to a situation in which a child lives without a father figure, whether physically or psychologically. This study examines the perspectives of girls who have experienced two forms of fatherless situations, namely: (1) a father who is physically present in the family, but whose role is absent, and (2) a father who is absent from the family both physically and psychologically (due to death or neglect). Attachment is a strong emotional bond between an individual and a significant figure. This study aims to identify the attachment styles of young adult women who have experienced fatherless conditions. This research utilizes a qualitative methodology, specifically a case study design, with three young adult women as participants. The results indicate that all three participants tended to exhibit insecure attachment, which influenced their patterns of social interaction and emotional regulation. This study emphasizes the importance of parental involvement or that of substitute caregivers in maintaining consistent communication and providing emotional support, thereby fostering psychological development and emotional well-being in young women.
