Abstract

Self-regulation is a conscious, goal-directed, and continuous process of managing thoughts, emotions, and behaviors to achieve objectives. This research is motivated by the critical need for self-regulation skills among late adolescents as they navigate the transition into early adulthood. This necessity is reinforced by the phenomenon of low self-regulation, as evidenced by previous studies and subject assessments, the dynamics of which are hypothesized to be associated with demographic factors, namely birth order. This study aims to identify the self-regulation profile of students at SMA Tarakanita Citra Raya and map its patterns based on birth order. This descriptive quantitative study utilized a purposive sampling technique. Measurements utilizing an instrument comprising 34 valid items (reliability coefficient = 0.935) indicated that the subjects' self-regulation falls into a good category (53% high, 47% moderate). These findings confirm an operational gap where adolescents are capable of mature target setting (outcome-oriented) yet exhibit weak strategic control during the performance phase, leading to a higher frequency of self-punishment rather than self-reward. Students are expected to utilize these results for self-reflection to formulate more practical self-regulation strategies, particularly through 'self-instruction' during the execution phase.
